A surge in entries for this year’s Greater Manchester Tech Climbers showcase highlights the growing global ambitions of the region’s tech startups.

Tech Climbers recently released its shortlist of the top product-led tech businesses in Greater Manchester, revealing a 10% increase in debuting entrants compared to last year. Almost three-quarters of this year’s participants were first-time entrants, reflecting the region’s vibrant startup ecosystem.


International Ambitions and AI Adoption

Data shows that over a third (37.5%) of Greater Manchester’s top tech firms are planning to expand internationally, demonstrating a global mindset across the region. Almost all businesses on the list use AI technology in some capacity, underlining the city’s competitive edge on the global stage.

Anna Heyes, founder of Tech Climbers, said:“With almost all of this year’s businesses using AI and a significant number aiming to internationalise, Manchester is out in front in terms of competing globally.”


Job Creation and Economic Impact

Greater Manchester startups are projected to create nearly 200 jobs in the next 12 months, with around a quarter expecting revenues of over £1 million. Health tech continues to be a strong focus, coinciding with the launch of the Greater Manchester Good Food Fund.


Strong AI Ecosystem and Investment Growth

Research from the Turing Innovation Catalyst indicates that AI firms in Greater Manchester are now valued at $4.2 billion, more than five times higher than in 2020. Liz Scott MBE, Executive Director at Turing Innovation Catalyst, commented:“The intersection of higher education, private sector innovation, and local and national government has become the foundation of the city region’s success. Greater Manchester leads by example in research, commercialisation, investment, and job creation.”
