Google report shows Android users receive fewer scam messages and calls compared to iPhone users.
According to Google’s latest study, Android users are less likely to encounter scam messages and calls than iPhone users, thanks to advanced AI-powered protection.

Google’s latest cybersecurity report reveals that Pixel 10 Pro and Android users experience significantly fewer scam messages and calls compared to iPhone 17 users. Backed by research from Leviathan Security Group, Android users were found to be 58% more likely to receive zero scam texts in the week prior to the survey.

The report highlights the growing role of AI-driven fraud prevention as Google strengthens Android’s defences against the global rise in digital scams.

Google Blocks 10 Billion Scam Calls and Messages Every Month

According to Google, scammers have increasingly used AI-powered tactics to create realistic phishing and fraud attempts — contributing to an estimated $400 billion in global losses annually.

To combat this, Android employs multi-layered AI defences that detect and block suspicious messages, calls, and links before they reach users. The company reports that its systems now intercept over 10 billion malicious calls and texts every month, while 100 million suspicious RCS numbers have been blocked in recent safety updates.

Survey: Android Users More Confident in Scam Protection

In a joint survey by Google and YouGov, which involved over 5,000 smartphone users across the US, India, and Brazil, Android users reported fewer scam attempts and higher confidence in their devices’ safety features.

Key findings include:

  • 58% of Android users said they received no scam texts in the prior week, compared to iPhone users.

  • Pixel 10 Pro owners were 96% more likely than iPhone 17 users to report zero scam messages.

  • iPhone users were 65% more likely than Android users to receive three or more scam texts weekly — and 136% more likely when compared directly with Pixel users.

  • 20% more Android users rated their phone’s scam protection as “very effective” or “extremely effective.”

  • In contrast, iPhone users were 150% more likely to describe their device’s protection as “not effective at all.”

Experts Confirm Pixel 10 Pro’s Lead in Scam Defence

Independent assessments by Counterpoint Research and Leviathan Security Group reinforce Google’s claims.

  • Counterpoint found that Android devices from brands like Pixel, Samsung, and Motorola offer AI-powered protection across 10 categories, while iOS covers only two.

  • Leviathan Security’s comparison of Pixel 10 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Moto Razr+ 2025, and iPhone 17 found Android phones had superior default scam and fraud protection.

Among them, Pixel 10 Pro stood out for its call screening, scam detection, and real-time authentication alerts, setting a new standard in mobile security.

How Android’s AI Systems Keep Users Safe

Google’s blog post outlined several key features that power Android’s security ecosystem:

  • Phone by Google automatically blocks spam calls and can use Call Screen to answer on your behalf, identifying potential fraudsters.

  • Google Messages filters known spam, flags suspicious links, and uses on-device AI to detect advanced scams such as “pig butchering.”

  • Regular Play Protect scans and Google One VPN integration further enhance privacy and prevent phishing attacks.

Final Thoughts

With the Pixel 10 Pro leading the charge and Android’s AI defences continuously evolving, Google is positioning itself as a front-runner in mobile scam protection. As scammers leverage AI to become more sophisticated, Android’s proactive, intelligent security systems appear to offer users a crucial edge over competitors — particularly Apple’s iPhone 17.
