West Ham United has taken a bold step into the future of football recruitment, announcing a partnership with AWS and software group Crayon to develop an AI-powered scouting platform. The initiative aims to redefine how footballing talent is identified and analysed in an increasingly data-driven sport.

Blending Tradition with Technology

West Ham has long been recognised for its world-class academy, which has produced stars like Declan Rice, now an Arsenal and England standout. Through this collaboration, the club hopes to stay at the forefront of innovation in football recruitment, combining its rich scouting heritage with the latest generative AI tools.

Harnessing Generative AI for Smarter Recruitment

The new platform will integrate Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock, enabling West Ham to gather, analyse, benchmark, and compare player data from around the globe.

Maximilian Hahn, Head of Technical Recruitment and Analysis at West Ham, explained:

“The platform we are developing using AI and machine learning builds comprehensive models to evaluate players across multiple dimensions – performance, playing style, team dynamics, age, experience, and financial fit – ensuring recruitment aligns with team goals.”

The AI system will allow the club to automate data analysis, process vast datasets efficiently, and make player selection more strategic, consistent, and future-focused.

Support from AI Experts

West Ham will leverage expertise from Crayon’s Center of Excellence and the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center, which assist organisations in building and deploying generative AI solutions.
